Americans Report Spiritual Experiences, but Few Turn to Scripture
American Bible Society released a new chapter of its State of the Bible research on October 8, looking at what Americans believe about the supernatural. Among respondents who said they had faced a spiritual attack, 74 percent said they turn to prayer, while only 15 percent reported meditating on or quoting Scripture. Baptist Press reports that 90 percent of respondents classed as practicing Christians said they had experienced answered prayer. These are self-reported experiences, not proven events. Still, the gap should give us pause. Paul put the sword of the Spirit, God's Word, and prayer side by side in the same passage.
Read Ephesians 6:17-18
