Come to Church to Be Filled

Discover the profound blessings awaiting when you attend church with a heart open to receive.

In today's fast-paced world, it's not uncommon for individuals to leave a church over seemingly minor preferences: the music doesn't match their taste, sermons are too lengthy or not engaging enough, or the children's programs lack the excitement found elsewhere. This trend reflects a consumer-driven mindset, where personal desires overshadow the true purpose of worship.

However, the essence of attending church transcends personal preferences. It's about approaching God with a heart eager to receive His boundless grace and wisdom. As the Scriptures remind us, "The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything" (Acts 17:24–25). This underscores our dependence on God for every breath and blessing.

When we gather for worship, it's an opportunity to be spiritually nourished. We come as empty vessels, yearning to be filled with God's word, love, and guidance. This act of receiving magnifies God's glory, showcasing His ability to satisfy our deepest needs. As the Psalmist declares, "For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things" (Psalm 107:9).

Moreover, approaching church with a receptive heart doesn't negate our call to serve others. In fact, those who are filled with God's love are often the most equipped to pour into the lives of others. By first seeking to be satisfied in God, we are then empowered to support and uplift our fellow believers. This aligns with the biblical principle that we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

It's also essential to recognize that our spiritual journey is not one of constant fullness. There are seasons of dryness and longing, where we desperately seek God's refreshing presence. The church serves as a sanctuary during these times, offering communal support and the rejuvenation our souls crave. As Isaiah invites, "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat!" (Isaiah 55:1).

In essence, attending church with the intent to receive is not an act of selfishness but a humble acknowledgment of our dependence on God. By coming to be filled, we honor God's provision and prepare ourselves to be vessels of His love in the world. So, as you prepare for the next service, come with open hearts, ready to receive all that God has prepared for you.
