Embracing Forgiveness

Finding Peace in a World of Hurt

During a spiritual retreat in Colorado, I faced a transformative task: listing those who had hurt me and endeavoring to forgive them. This experience underscored the essential role of forgiveness in our spiritual and emotional health.

1. Forgiveness Is For Us, Not Them

Forgiveness liberates us from the corrosive grip of unresolved anger, enhancing our ability to enjoy life and connect authentically with others.

2. The Myth of ‘Forgive and Forget’

True forgiveness acknowledges the pain but chooses not to let it control our emotions.

3. Reconciliation Isn’t Always the Outcome

Forgiving doesn't necessarily mean restoring relationships. Setting boundaries is vital for self-care.

4. Forgiveness as a Reflection of Divine Love

Our ability to forgive mirrors the divine forgiveness we receive from God, prompting us to extend grace to others.

5. Breaking the Cycle of Unforgiveness

Embracing forgiveness helps us accept God’s forgiveness more fully, breaking the cycle of guilt and self-condemnation.

A symbolic act of releasing my list of past hurts in the Garden of the Gods symbolized my journey to peace. Forgiveness is essential for moving forward and opening ourselves to new possibilities of peace and joy.
