Journeying to a World Beyond Sight

Seeing the Eternal Beyond the Temporary.

In today’s world, many people live as though this physical life is all there is. They dismiss the spiritual realm, choosing to focus solely on what they can see, touch, and measure. Yet, as Christians, we know there is far more to reality than what meets the eye. We are, indeed, journeying to a world unseen a reality that will outlast all we know here on earth.

Our current culture, as Greg Morse describes, often mirrors "a herd of cows grazing a field," where people are consumed by immediate experiences, disinterested in anything beyond their senses. This materialistic mindset forgets that everything we see is temporary, a mere shadow of what is truly real: the eternal world God has prepared for us (2 Corinthians 4:18). Christians are called to look beyond the fleeting pleasures of this life and live in light of the unseen kingdom of God.

Throughout Scripture, we see countless examples of faithful men and women who lived with their eyes fixed on what is unseen. Hebrews 11 reminds us of heroes like Noah, Abraham, and Moses, who acted on faith, believing in promises they couldn’t yet see. They lived not for this present world but for a "better country" (Hebrews 11:16), trusting in the eternal promises of God.

In the same way, we are invited to view this world as temporary and fleeting, understanding that our true home is in heaven. Our earthly life is like a vapor (Psalm 144:4), here one moment and gone the next. What matters most is not what we accumulate or accomplish here, but how we live in faith, preparing for the world to come.

We must ask ourselves: what drives our decisions and how we spend our time? Do we prioritize the eternal or are we distracted by the transient concerns of this life? Paul reminds us that our "light and momentary troubles" are working in us "an eternal weight of glory" (2 Corinthians 4:17). Let this truth guide our hearts and minds as we navigate life on this earth, ever conscious of the eternal home we are journeying toward.
