How Jesus Teaches Us to See the Whole Bible

Learning to Read Scripture with Christ at the Center.

In the book of Acts, the apostles demonstrate how Jesus taught them to read the Scriptures in a Christ-centered way. Drawing from key passages in Luke 24, we see that Jesus opened their minds to understand how the whole Old Testament points to His suffering, resurrection, and global mission. The apostles then modeled this in their sermons, showing how Jesus fulfills every part of Scripture.

Peter and Paul, through their preaching, emphasized not just what to believe about Jesus but how to approach all of Scripture in light of His redemptive work. For example, in Acts 2, Peter connects the events of Pentecost to Joel's prophecy, proving the fulfillment of God’s promises through Jesus. Paul, in Acts 13, interprets the Old Testament with a focus on Christ’s resurrection and mission to the nations, quoting passages from Isaiah and Psalms to reveal the unity of God’s plan.

This Christ-centered reading helps believers see that all of Scripture points to Jesus and that our faith is deeply rooted in God's fulfilled promises. With spiritual sight and power, Jesus commissions His followers to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.

As we read the Bible, let us ask the Lord to teach us to see His Son throughout its pages and to join in His mission.
