Forever Youthful
The better beauty the world can’t take away.

Sitting in the dermatologist’s office, I noticed the rows of anti-aging products promising smoother skin and fewer wrinkles. I caught sight of my own “eleven lines” in the mirror and asked the doctor what might help. Her answer was blunt: “The only cure for those is Botox.”
It made me wonder why do I want to erase these marks of age? Didn’t I earn them through years of work, child-rearing, and love?
The World’s Beauty Creed
Our culture urges women to “never look your age,” selling creams, procedures, and filters to turn back time. While caring for our bodies is good stewardship, obsessing over youthfulness can reveal deeper fears fear of losing attention, love, opportunity, or approval.
The danger is subtle: when appearance becomes our measure of worth, beauty becomes an idol.
God’s Upside-Down View
Scripture calls us to see age as a gift, not a threat.
“Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.” (Job 12:12)
“Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.” (Proverbs 16:31)
God prizes the maturity that comes with years of trusting him. Every wrinkle can remind us of his faithfulness through trials the furrowed brow of hard decisions, the dark circles of late-night care, the laugh lines of joy shared.
True Beauty in Christ
The longing to be beautiful is not wrong but it’s meant to be satisfied in God. Jesus’s death and resurrection clothe us in his righteousness, making us beautiful in his sight.
True beauty is Christlike character: grace, mercy, steadfast love, faithfulness. It shows in feet that bring good news (Romans 10:15), hands that serve, and voices that comfort.
Looking to Eternity
Paul reminds us,
“Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)
The gospel frees us from the tyranny of appearances. Even as our bodies age, our beauty deepens as we grow more like Christ beauty no cream, camera, or passing year can take away. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter for more updates
