Three Christians in Afghanistan have been in Taliban custody since July 2026, The Voice of the Martyrs reports. Taliban police arrested them for "promoting Christianity and engaging in alleged missionary activities," the ministry says. The report, posted October 29, does not give their names.
The Voice of the Martyrs calls Afghanistan one of the most restrictive and dangerous countries in the world for Christians to live in and to witness for Christ. Afghan believers cannot worship openly. They must meet in homes or other small venues, and evangelism is forbidden.
A front-line worker asked for two things. "Pray for their release," the worker said. "And also pray that the Lord will use this situation to open doors for Christ's kingdom in the country in a new way." The ministry invites readers to post a prayer for Afghan Christians on iCommitToPray.com.
Hebrews 13:3 calls us to remember those in prison as though we were bound with them. So pray for Afghanistan by name. Ask the Lord to free the three, to keep their families, and to guard the small gatherings that meet behind closed doors across the country. Ask too that their witness, even under arrest, would reach the police who hold them.
Lord Jesus, you know these three by name even when we do not. Stand with them in custody. Give them courage and peace, and open doors in Afghanistan that no one can shut. Amen.
