The Hope of the Body’s Resurrection
The resurrection of our bodies is not optional it’s a divine necessity rooted in Christ, our calling, and the destiny of creation.

“This perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:53
Why must this happen? Why must our perishable bodies be raised? Whose necessity is this?
Not ours. Not nature’s. Not the devil’s.
This is God’s necessity His divine decree. And it is not arbitrary. The bodily resurrection of believers fulfills God’s deepest purposes in redemptive history. Here are four reasons this resurrection must happen:
1. Jesus Has a Body Forever
Jesus was raised not as a spirit but in a glorified physical body (Luke 24:39–43). And He still has that body today.
“We await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20–21
Why would Jesus, after completing His work, keep His incarnate body? Because His bodily resurrection is the pattern and promise of ours. He didn’t rise as a ghost. He rose bodily and so will we.
2. Jesus Wants Us With Him Fully and Physically
Jesus prayed, “Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory” (John 17:24).
He wants us not only spiritually present but physically glorified bodies fit to behold glory, not burn before it. The bodily resurrection is part of that answer.
3. Jesus Will Make Us Like Him
“We know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” 1 John 3:2
To behold Christ as He is, we must be transformed. And not only our souls our bodies must be raised and glorified. The resurrection remakes us in His image inside and out.
4. All Creation Awaits Our Resurrection
The material world is waiting. Groaning. Eager.
“The creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God... that it may obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.” Romans 8:19–21
Our glorified bodies are not just a personal reward they are the signal for the renewal of the cosmos. The universe’s story culminates not just in heaven, but in a new earth a world of glory populated by glorified saints.
Our resurrection is the hinge on which the restoration of creation swings.
This Is Not in Vain
So what does this cosmic, bodily hope mean for now?
Everything. “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58
Your body your actions your labors matter because God has eternity planned for them. You are not wasting your time. Every act of faith, every word of witness, every unseen moment of obedience echoes into the resurrection.
So don’t coast. Don’t dawdle. Don’t waste your life.
Live like someone who will live forever.
“We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.” Nicene Creed
