The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church says two attacks in the Oromia region killed at least 60 Orthodox Christians, The Associated Press reports. The church's Holy Synod said last Monday that 14 people were killed in Merti district on Oct. 20 and a further 46 in Shirka district on Saturday. Both districts lie in Oromia's Arsi Zone. More than 20 people were seriously wounded and 20 homes were burned down, the church said, calling the killings "brutal and merciless massacres." It urged the authorities to protect civilians and bring those responsible to justice. OSV News reports the attacks fell between Oct. 20 and 25. Pray for the families who buried their dead this week and for the wounded still recovering.
